Can you connect a battery charger and a battery in series to double the voltage output ?
I have a 3 amp 18 volts battery charger and two 5 amps, 6 Volts batteries. I am building an hydrogen generator and want the maximum amount of current and volts. So if I connect the battery charger and 2 batteries in series will I get an output of 18+6+6 = 30 V or if I connect them in parallel 5+5+3=13 amps??? Is this possible?? Please help.Proper scientific answers preferred with explanation.
With the series arrangement the current will probably be limited by the battery charger. With the parallel arrangement, the full current will be obtained only when the batteries are freshly charged. As the batteries are discharged the current from the charger will be diverted from the final load into recharging the batteries.
