Charging And Starting Systems

I have an older pc with windows xp, a barracuda 7200.7 160g as a master and i got a WD Caviar blue 500g to install as a slave but i need help with the jumper settings on the barracuda it has only 8 pins and three different ways you can set the jumper, one says "master on" "slave off" an other says "cable select" and the other limits the drive to 32g, i tried the "cable select" setting for the barracuda and the "cable select" on the western digital and nothing, i can't see the new drive on "my computer",then i tried all the other settings and different things happen but i can't see the new drive at all. Is there an extra step I'm missing or need to do? I almost forgot, they both plug on to one interface with an ide cable. the western digital has 10 pins and 4 different settings one says "cable select" 2nd says "master or single" 3rd says "Master with slave present" and the other says "slave".Please help.
