i have a 92' ford ranger ex cab, 2.9L. the trans fluid was backing up into the oil somewhere, so we went to the mechanic, and was told that it was the transmission module. after calling our local auto parts store, i was lead to believe that the modulator is the part he meant to say, but it's not going to fix the job. is it the part? is it easily accessible? overall, i'm pretty confused. thanks in advanced.
yes that's the part.Before electronic controls an automatic transmission would shift based on how much vacuum the engine is pulling by way of the vacuum modulator.There is a rubber diaphram inside the modulator that when broken will allow vacuum to suck trans fluid up into the motor.Generally a pretty simple repair but someone else asked about the same thing on an explorer and I heard that could be a lil tricky to access.Crawl up under the truck and look for a vacuum line running to the trans,at the end of that line you'll find the modulator
