I feed her Beneful for puppies and i brush her 3 times a week. She stays clean but yet she still stinks. from reading some other posts about pugs i see bathing them to often can make them smell. Is that true? Hopefully some pug owners out there can gimme some tips on how to get her smelling good.
What the dog is eating contributes directly to their skin condition and often times to their odor. It is true that pugs are known to have some skin problems. Beneful is high in grains and fillers which can cause allergies in dogs, including skin allergies. I would recommend a higher quality food like Nature's Recipe Venison Formula which is specifically formulated for healthy skin and coat. We feed this to our cocker mix and she hardly has an odor! While it may cost more initially, you actually save money because the dog eats less since the food is more nutrient-rich.
Brushing the dogs is always a good idea, but you should not have to bathe them that often. Their skin can dry out easily and that may also be contributing to the odor.
