Should I choose car, or motorcycle?
Ok so here I am. I have had a Driver/class E (chauffeurs) for a few years now, and I have been thinking about adding a class M (motorcycle) to my repitoire.
Taking into consideration:
o: Cost of car vs cost of bike
o: Cost of bike safety course (270$) vs drivers ed (took it free)
o: Cost of protective bike equipment (helmet, gloves, jacket, boots)
o: Cost of car insurance vs Cost of bike insurance
o: Gas mileage
I want a bike because I will spend less in gas (as I've been told they get incredible mpg) but is it really a money saver to get a bike?
I began with a Doodlebug when I was 9 years old.(Does anybody remember the Doodlebug?) I graduated through Lambretta scooters, various small motorcycles, and have owned and toured on 2 big road burners. Two wheels are fun, and a great way to travel.
However, the fuel economy is not much better than many economy cars, and the tire mileage is awful, especially when your kids are growing up, and good safe tires cost as much or more than car tires. A good economy car costs less to buy than a good road burner.
Insurance costs depend more on the rider/driver than the type of vehicle.
Having owned both camping trailers, and a class A motorhome, in addition to pulling a pop-up camper with my bike, my choice would still be a motorcycle, with a car for snow and ice.
Good luck!
