Recently replaced the module in the distributor and got it running again.
After driving the vehicle for a while and then stopping for gas or my destination. The vehicle will not start back up unless I let it cool down. Temps never get above 200. Not sure what's causing the problem. The starter has a heat-shield on it, so I don't think it's getting overheated, but it's possible. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
I'm running a Unilite distributor and have already replaced the module within it. (Cost me $122)
When it's cold it will turn over, but just takes a few turns before it will engage and start.
When hot, it won't turn over. It doesn't click like it's the battery it just act like it doesn't have enough power to start or something.
I am running aftermarket headers and exhaust. Both are unwrapped. It's possible the started is still getting overheated despite the heat-shield. I'll look into wrapping the headers. Thanks!
Are you running stock exhaust or Headers? Does sound like heat problems with the starter, even though you have a heat sheild and if you have a cheap aftermarket starter heat will kill it. also with headers you will need a better quality sheild. Thermo wraps also have wrap boots for the starter.
Even with a high torque starter and the factory heat sheild on my 72 duster it was not enough protection. Went with a Nascar quality heat blanket and cut it to size to make it work, that was real expensive but worked out great
